One night, Yolanda Anzaldua was rushed to the ER.
She had no idea she had cancer.

The following Monday, Yolanda was meeting with a doctor, and the very next day she was undergoing surgery to have the cancer removed. After her mastectomy, she started chemo and radiation for 3 months.
During this time, Yolanda’s nails turned black and she was fatigued & sick after the sessions. She also struggled to feel like a full woman, worried that her family and her husband wouldn’t see her the same way.
But with the support of her two daughters, her husband, and her best friend, she fought to win the battle with cancer.

And so, for years Yolanda was cancer-free.
But then in 2001, ten years after her first battle with cancer, she went to the doctor where they found a lump. Yolanda then had a lumpectomy where the cancer was removed—again.
To this day, she has to take medication and will continue to take it for the rest of her life.

Yolanda’s daughter Anna says that the biggest obstacle her mother faced was having to change her lifestyle.
“She couldn’t live the way she used to… they took a piece of her nerve from the left side during the surgery. But at the end of the day, she’s glad she’s alive.”

Anna also has some advice for anyone facing cancer.
“You have to stay positive. Things will work out in the best way that they can. And if you have a support system, go. There are groups that you can be a part of with other people that have been in the same position. And accept the help they give.”

Central Rent 2 Own is honored to have customers like Yolanda Anzaldua.
We are thankful that her daughter was willing to share about her battle with cancer to help other fighters find hope and recognize that they are not alone.
